New ships – new possibilities

Faroe Ship will in accordance with customers’ wishes and needs launch a new sailing schedule at the beginning of January 2008. Three new vessels, two container vessels and one pallet vessel, and also Godafossur and Dettifossur will continue to take care of the sailing to and from the Faroes. Information about the new vessels will be given in the nearest future and the new sailing schedule will be announced this week.

In line with the future plans of Faroe Ship and the new sailing system, the decision to sell Lómur and Blikur is made. Lómur will be handed over to the buyer at the beginning of January 2008 and Blikur at the beginning of February 2008.

The new sailing system has been carefully planned and will provide these benefits among others: Expansion of route system, better sailing schedule, improved reliability, increased capacity, improved handling of the cargo and increased service level to our customers.

In the Faroes all container import and export will be to and from Tórshavn and our numerous domestic vehicles will take care of the task of transportation between the vessels and our customers and warehouses. Faroe Ship’s warehouses are located in the following places: Tórshavn, Klaksvík, Tvøroyri, Søldarfjørður and Runavík where the supply-base is placed.

With reference to the changes all import and export goods to and from Denmark will be routed through Århus and not like now through both Hirtshals and Århus. All goods to and from the Faroes will be handled in our new warehouse in Århus, which has been taken over from Maersk. The warehouse has a capacity of appr. 5.000 m2 with excellent circumstances to receive import goods, to consolidate goods and pallets into containers, receive export goods and handle it in a temperature controlled area and distribute it in Denmark and to other countries in Europe, Baltic, Russia...

The pallet vessel will sail twice a week between the Faroes and Scrabster, and the harbours in the Faroes are Runavík and Tvøroyri.
