In August, a new weekly sailing route will be added to Eimskip’s sailing system when Skógafoss begins sailing from Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands to Rotterdam and back. This strengthens the connection between the Faroe Islands, and the export of fresh products from there, to markets in mainland Europe, while also opening new and more regular opportunities for imports from Europe to the Faroe Islands.
“We have been seeing an increase in exports of fresh seafood from the Faroe Islands to Europe, particularly salmon, and we expect this growth to continue,” says Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, CEO of Eimskip.
“A reliable direct connection between the Faroe Islands and Rotterdam is essential to support this development, enabling shorter transit times and increased transport volumes. This also creates opportunities for import companies in the Faroe Islands, which will now benefit from more efficient and stronger supply chains from mainland Europe.
This new weekly sailing route, which we call our Purple Line has been developed in close cooperation with Faroe Ship, our subsidiary in the Faroe Islands. It supports a thriving business community in the Faroe Islands and is also a confirmation of the company's vision of connecting communities and delivering prosperity,” Vilhelm adds.
At the beginning of September, a new port of call will be added to the route, when calls at Ålesund in Norway begin on the return sailing from Rotterdam to the Faroe Islands.
“The Purple Line is an excellent addition to our sailing system, and we look forward to offering our customers this new route, directly to mainland Europe, thereby strengthening our service offering in the North Atlantic,” Vilhelm concludes.
The first departure from Tórshavn will be on August 4th. Further information is available in Eimskip’s sailing schedule.
